Reiki is a form of energy healing, a spiritual healing practice built on the belief that the body is innately able to heal itself. Reiki originated in Japan in the early 20th century and is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy “flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low than we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words. Rei, which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power”, and Ki, which is “life force energy”. So Reiki is actually “spiritually guided life force energy.” Reiki is most commonly used to ease pain, anxiety, fatigue, and depression, but since at its core is the idea that the body in its natural state can heal any ailment, the uses are endless.
Your chakras are the gatekeepers of energy between you and the universal field, moving old energy out and new fresh energy in. This replenishes your field and in turn, your body, keeping it healthy. But when trauma occurs and is not processed or when emotions are repressed, they can become stuck in your body and cause blockages in your energy field and chakras as well. A blocked chakra is like a crimp in a hose-your energy will be prevented from flowing properly and that will eventually manifest as pain or illness in your body. This is where energy healing comes in.
A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body; emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feeling of peace, security, and wellbeing. Many reported miraculous results.
The spiritual healing art of Reiki works by channeling positive energy into your body, with Reiki practitioners typically placing their hands on the affected areas of the body that need a boost, offering this energy where most needed. The powerful flow of positive energy may bring a near immediate sensation of relief as it releases tension, lessens the impact of stress and replaces negative energy with the positive. Some refer to the positive Reiki energy as the life force, and indeed it can bring new life to a stressed out, tired body. Instead of headaches and angry outbursts, Reiki may potentially help you enjoy:
Generally the session is an hour.
Yes, Reiki pratitioners work with their hands over your clothes, but you will want to wear loosely fitting clothing to be comfortable.
This is your call. The Reiki Practitioner’s hands may be a few inches above your body with no actual touch or Reiki can be done with light gentle pressure, avoiding all sensitive body parts. You can let you practitioner know if you prefer light touch or no touch.
Most Reiki is done laying on a table such as a massage table but if there are mobility or pain issues, Reiki can be performed in any position.
Generally the Reiki Master will explain the process and talk to you about any issues you may have. Once the session starts there is generally not any talking although you can always feel free to ask any questions or voice any concerns. Generally there will be soft, calming background music playing.
Most clients feel a sense of peace and relaxation. The body should feel relaxed and at ease and the mind should feel calm and peaceful. Many clients are so relaxed that they fall asleep. It is fine to sleep, you will still receive all the benefits of the Reiki session. Individuals report many different experience; some report the practitioners hands becoming hot, while others say the hands are cooling and other tell of feeling pulsating waves. You may feel a very slight tingling, heat, or energy, or nothing at all; it all depends on how your body senses energy.
You will be fine to drive but you should drink plenty of water to hydrate as your body’s energy system may be moving move quickly and need water and healthy food.

You should ask one simple question: who did you study with and where did you receive you certification? All qualified Reiki practitioners will have a certification and will love sharing with you who they studied with, where they received their training and the training they are doing on an ongoing basis. It is important to look for Usui Reiki Ryoho because it must be taught in person, as training is passed on directly from Reiki Master to Reiki student.
